World Cup Football

Great to watch ... with all the spitting! Why is it so necessary for professional athletes to constantly spit in full public view? Is it 'macho'? I think not. I am retired now but many years ago I competitively ran the 800 metres ... if I had spat all around the track you can be sure that I would have been thrown out of the competition.
Its no wonder that our youth of today so often find it necessary to spit when simply walking.
Come on you professionals, set an example to be proud of.

I've played a number of football and basketball games in years past and I've always found that the saliva in my mouth actually becomes thick (as it does with dehydration) and I always found it was easier to spit it out than force it down my throat. It's a disgusting thing I know. When playing basketball you can't spit as it's indoors but when you're on a large grass field you feel at liberty to do just that. I know I did and my games were always just amateur gatherings really.

It was rather less annoying than the constant buzzzing hum of those dreadful vuvuzela things which meant that many people were unable to watch the broadcast unless the sound was turned off.

How much you want to bet the World Cup won't be back in Africa for a long time. Those things annoyed everyone. I know the Canadian media was all over them as was the Polish and if I heard correctly the Norwegians too.

I accept 'thickening' of spit but if you watch closely (uff) it mostly ain't the reason. Maybe they should be issued with spit cups or vuvuzela's which would be silenced if they spat too much (another uff)
